Pulling the Duvet Off What Is Inside Your Mattress in South Africa
/
The most important part of your mattress is hidden away from sight, leaving you to rely on the information supplied to you to make the right choice. Here is some information to aid you in making the best decision.
There are four main types of mattresses
- Spring systems for mattresses can be traced back as far as 1871, a system that is over one hundred and fifty years old. Inexpensive to make, and a consumer of space – easily increasing the height of the mattress at a low cost, it has been the major component of mattresses for decades. Spring-only mattresses are now only used for cheap mattresses and are very firm.
- Hybrid mattresses are the most common of mattresses found today. Utilising the cost effectiveness of the spring system, additional layers of foam are added on top to provide a plusher feel and greater comfort than a spring mattress alone. Unfortunately, if low quality foams are used, they compress often becoming ineffective and creating hollows in the mattress.
- Foam mattresses vary from cheaper foams to expensive advanced polymer foams such as Memory Foam, Latex and Sensapedic. Memory foam moulds quickly but is affected by room and body temperature. Latex, a natural product, is denser and only suitable for heavier users. Advanced polymer foams, created in laboratories, mimic the benefits of these types of foams without the shortcomings.
